Island Music

The Island brims with music festivals during the summer months. Like other areas of the East Coast, Prince Edward Island has a strong heritage of Celtic music. Ceilidhs filled with singing, storytelling and fiddling run at many local community halls throughout the season. Lovers of Celtic music flock to events like the Rollo Bay Fiddle Festival, performances at the College of Piping, and the Close to the Ground concert series in Pooles Corner. The Island’s music scene, however, comprises much more than fine Celtic sounds. The Indian River Music Festival, for example, showcases classical and acoustic performers in an historic church acclaimed for its acoustics. Or you might simply head to downtown Charlottetown, where music spills out of the bars that regularly feature local performers – including artists in rock, jazz, blues, country and other genres.

musicMusic is a big part of many PEI festivals and events. And it comes in an eclectic mix, from Acadian fiddling to authentic Celtic, from jazz to country. Plan to attend one of our festivals or events, or visit a craft studio in one of our Island’s quaint, cultural venues.
